I have had some strange flu/stomach bug for 3 days now. H1N1, anyone? Sheesh!
Yesterday was the yard sale. We made a whopping $60 - which I am fine with. The even better news is that everyone there donated their unsold stuff to a battered women shelter and the best news is that now I have a van load of stuff that is gone forever from my life.
As a side note - We found out that as a GM, when Marty is transferred again (which will probably be a few years down the road. Please feel sorry for me.) we get movers. Real movers who will come in and pack everything and move it. I can not tell you how happy that makes me. Of course, all of this getting rid of stuff would have been great to do when we were still moving ourselves, but at least it is happening.
I still have more stuff to get rid of. Does it ever end? I mean, it seems like I have been getting rid of stuff my entire adult life. The sad thing is... compared to the average family, I am pretty sure that we don't have that much. Maybe it is just my tolerance of it that makes me feel like I am drowning in a sea of crap?
The Spanish couple who lives across from us is heading back to Spain on Tuesday. They are selling all of their stuff and when I was there to look at it (not for me - for a friend) I just kept thinking how little they had. Of course, they have a house back in Spain that could be filled to overflowing for all I know, but here, they had just what they needed.
Which of course reminded me of when Marty was in corporate housing. In corporate housing, they give you just what you need. it was so liberating. We had so much time to explore St. Louis, because we weren't stuck back at the apartment cleaning crap that we didn't need/like/want.
I know I have mentioned it here before, but I am really trying to get us to that point. Of course, we will have just slightly more than what corporate housing gives you. Hell, just my kitchen stuff is more than you get. But it is an always present goal. One that I can work on and then file away as needed. Right now, the idea is out and knocking me on the head at every turn. Blech!
